About

Keep Windsurfing
Alive in WA

The Cervantes Windsurf Challenge is a community event supported by Tribal Windsurfing and the WA windsurfing community. It celebrates everything we love about windsurfing — the speed, the skill, the camaraderie and the coastline.

Whether you are here to race slalom, chase a GPS personal best, or simply sail with friends at one of WA's most spectacular locations, the Cervantes Challenge has a place for you.

This event is a shared project. It only works because the WA windsurfing community comes together to make it happen. If you can help — on the water, on the beach, or behind the scenes — we want to hear from you.

Do I need to be a member of WWA (Windsurfing WA)?
WWA membership is encouraged and may be required for some competition categories. Details are being confirmed. You can indicate your membership status at registration and update it later.
I'm not a competitive racer — can I still come?
Absolutely. The Social / Friend of Cervantes entry category is designed for people who want to be part of the event, join the social program, and sail alongside the competitors without formal racing.
How does GPS Speed work?
GPS Speed uses personal GPS devices to record your speed over a 500 m course. Results are uploaded and tracked via GPS Speedsurfing (gps-speedsurfing.com). You will need an account and a compatible GPS device. Details will be in the pre-event guide.
What equipment do I need?
Bring your own windsurfing equipment. The conditions in Cervantes typically suit smaller sails (4–6 m range) and slalom / speed boards. A range of sails is recommended. There is no equipment hire available on-site.
Is there accommodation in Cervantes?
Yes — Cervantes has caravan parks, chalets and holiday houses. We recommend booking early as accommodation is limited, especially during popular event weekends. A list of recommended options will be included in the event guide.
Can I bring my family?
Yes! Family and friends are very welcome. Non-sailing family members can register as a "Friend of Cervantes" and join the social program. Children under a certain age free with a paying adult — details TBC.
How do I volunteer?
Register as a Volunteer / Event Crew, or tick the volunteer interest option in any registration category. The volunteer coordinator will contact you to confirm your role before the event. Volunteers get free entry and a t-shirt.
What if conditions are bad?
The Race Officer will assess conditions before each session. Events can be delayed, shortened, or moved to alternative courses. The social program will continue regardless of sailing conditions. There are no refunds for weather-related cancellations of sailing sessions.
